Dedicated to the memory of Ruth

Ruth was not only a mother, grandmother, foster mother and sister, but also an aunty and good friend to many. She was born in Durban, South Africa in 1933, and after a hard upbringing, she made the brave decision to move to the UK following her husband Patchappen (Billy) in 1962. This was a difficult time when many struggled to settle in an unfamiliar country, but her strength and determination shone through as she managed set up home here in London where she then had her 2 children, Arumugam (Edward) and Indra (Annette). Ruth's house was the landing spot for most of our family and friends from all over the world, it was more like a second home where all were welcome for food and social gatherings, many of which we all have fond memories of. Ruth was a caring and generous person who formed a close-knit circle of friends and also, despite being born into the Hindu religion, became a Christian and had an active role in her church community at St Peter’s De Beauvoir. The church have always supported Ruth, in many ways over the years, taking her out on trips and to weekly clubs, they even taught her to read.

Ruth leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Paul; Grandchildren, Shanice, Tamara, Natalya and Daniel; and foster children, Karen, Tony, Tracey, Kay and Penny. Her hardworking hands are now at rest and she will be sorely missed by us all.
